My research focuses on sustainable remediation of environmental pollutants. I investigate phytoremediation of heavy metals like chromium using aromatic plants, exploring their potential for efficient removal from contaminated sites. Additionally, I study the use of agri-waste biochar for mitigating arsenic and other inorganic contaminants, evaluating their effectiveness and mechanisms. Another area of interest is the quantification of microplastics in soil and water, examining their interactions with co-contaminants and dissolved organic matter, and assessing their impact on various crops.
Our research focuses on innovative, sustainable solutions for environmental remediation. Our findings:
- Microbial Remediation of Chromium: Investigating how microorganisms can be harnessed to remove toxic chromium from contaminated environments, offering a promising alternative to traditional methods.
- Plant Waste-Based Adsorbents: Developing cost-effective adsorbents from different plant wastes to purify sewage/wastewater and remove arsenic from soil, promoting circular economy principles.
- Microplastics and Microbial Diversity: Examining the complex relationship between microplastics, soil properties, and microbial communities to better understand the ecological impacts of plastic pollution.
Our work contributes to a deeper understanding of environmental processes and offers practical solutions for pollution control, resource recovery, and ecosystem health.
